Products and Services

Although Uzupis Theatre Company is primarily a 501(c)(3) non-profit theatre, it will also provide other services to help enrich the community of Athens-Clarke County in the arts and social awareness.

 1. Education/Outreach Programs

By 2009, Uzupis Theatre Company will have a robust education program for the schools in and around Athens-Clarke County.    After each show, we will hold a question and answer session with the students about the topics discussed in the play. We will also provide information packets on the subject matter that will be distributed to the schools prior to the show to make the students more aware of the issue we are presenting.

Another aspect of the education program is our outreach program. This program caters more specifically to adults, giving them an educational tool in order to explore the issues discussed in the shows.  We will have group nights, which are special performances for non-profit organizations such as rehabilitation centers, abuse centers, and similar groups, amongst others.

 2. Intern Program

In order to nurture the talent in Athens-Clarke County from local high-schools and colleges, we will set up an Intern Program to help foster creativity and teach specific tools necessary to succeed in the theatre industry.  The areas of intern study will include acting, technical design, business management and script writing.  We will teach classes on acting technique, audition technique, business operations, advancements in technology, education/outreach, creative writing technique and understudy classes. Our goal is that each person who takes part in the internship will come out of the program with a greater understanding of how a professional theatre operates.

3. Art Gallery Lobby

Upon obtaining a permanent space, the lobby of the upcoming Užupis Theatre Company space will host double as an art gallery to support and promote local talent.  By opening our doors to the local art scene, we are able to give local artists the platform to display their art as well as an opportunity for patrons to purchase the work.

4. Support Local Music

Furthering the concept of integrating art with society, we will feature music by local artists before each show, during the intermission, and after each show is complete.  Recordings will be available for sale during these times.

5. Information and Materials

Based on the topics relevant to the production in progress, we will provide informational materials in the lobby.  This can include contact numbers for counselors, notices of info sessions and group meetings hosted by other community groups, and other collateral materials on the subject matter presented in the show.

For example:  The first show addresses poverty and minimum wage in the United States.  Each week during the production, we will hold a question and answer session and make any information we obtained during our research on the show available to our audience.  The information packets available will include literature on the minimum wage, economic assistance, and contact numbers and addresses to the local government, statesmen and congress to express individual concern about the poverty level and minimum wage in the United States.
